Photography literally means ‘drawing with light’. It is the art of capturing light to create an image. The major purpose of photography is to record moments in time; however, these can be presented in many forms depending on what the photographer sees and wishes the viewers to see.

Street and Landscape Photographer

A Snap To Success

Get inspired to use your camera for street, landscape and travel photography. I hope to encourage you get out and enjoy photography at whatever level you are.

My aim is to show you settings, different lenses and inspire you to get out and take photos in many different locations and not limit yourself to one type of photography. I'm interested in roaming around to find photo opportunities. I’m keen on landscapes and street photography including architecture and nature. I’ve added a drone to my list of cameras and plan to take you on my personal learning curve to fly, record and take photographs. Hopefully I can use the drone for B-roll video and for photographs from a different perspective.

As a trainer by profession I am keen to take you with me on my journeys. Let’s take photos, look at the settings and everything else.

Mental Health and Photography

I firmly believe that photography contributes to positive wellbeing by taking you away to a place of creativity, detaching us from the everyday pressures and helps calm our busy mind and improves our mood. I personally find it a great escape and gives me more exercise than I would normally do, especially when doing street photography.

I recommend photography as an excellent hobby that does not need to cost a lot. We all carry a camera these days built into our mobile phone, therefore there is no excuse to get started. Phones produce amazing quality of video and photos especially if you plan to use the images on social media.

I often set myself a project so I have some focus when out with my camera. I also take part in a weekly photo challenge on 52Frames, that I find forces me out with the camera or phone at least once per week, and it’s free.

I often think about my style of photography and have come to the conclusion that a style delevelops over a long period of time. I started off enjoying landscape photography and then had a go at street photography and was hooked. Of course at that stage I did not have a style, my street photography has been developing over time. I tend to be on the move most of the time, holding my camera with one hand. I am beginning to develop a real passion for black and white photography and enjoy seeing the world in grey tones rather than colour; however, I never restrict myself I just go with the flow for that day, it often depends how I feel and how the light and subject is looking through the lens. Most of my trips out are recorded and published on YouTube so you can watch my process. David Ludlow Photography
